The Daily News is the nation’s oldest college newspaper, published every weekday when Yale is in session. Founded on January 28, 1878, the Daily News is editorially and financially independent from Yale University. The paper has long been an important forum for public discussion at Yale and in the larger community. The News’ staff includes student editors and writers, as well as columnists who have gone on to prominent careers in journalism and public life including William F. Buckley, Lan Samantha Chang, John Hersey, Sargent Shriver and Paul Steiger.
Each day’s News features intense city news coverage, New York exclusives and politics, as well as the latest in gossip and entertainment. Its sports department is the undisputed leader in reporting on the Yankees, Mets and Giants. The News is also known for its op-eds and commentary, and its large and prominent photographs. The New York Times calls it “New York’s best-read and most-watched newspaper.”
In addition to local news and opinion, the News publishes feature articles, national and international breaking news, as well as a variety of special issues and supplements each year. It also carries news and opinions from syndicated sources such as Bob Herbert, Thomas Friedman and Maureen Dowd.
The News also serves as ASCO’s official conference reporter, providing high-quality, unbiased research summaries to oncology health care providers and ASCO members. Its physician editors ensure that the News’ content is scientifically sound and educationally valuable.
ASCO’s policy is to sell advertising in its publications only when the inclusion of such advertisements does not affect the integrity or scientific merit of the articles.
