What Is Entertaiment?

The clown at your kid’s birthday party, the Broadway show you went to, or your friends fighting over the last potato chip at the bar—all of these are forms of entertaiment. From the Old French word entretenir, which was associated with hospitality and the idea of keeping guests happy, entertainment has come to mean a distraction or an agreeable occupation for the mind. It can be a performance, such as a show or a game of sports, or an activity, such as solving a crossword puzzle or watching TV. See more at Cambridge Dictionary.
