This bill would require City agencies to provide notices to employees and job applicants regarding federal and State student loan forgiveness programs. It also would require the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection to prepare a general guide to student loan forgiveness programs for City agency employees and job applicants to distribute.
A new law would require employers to notify workers when an employee leaves the company, and the law could fine employers for failing to do so. It would also require employers to notify the City of any violations of the law.
To prevent fraud and for other purposes.
This bill would amend the definition of “fraud” to include “a knowing or fraudulent scheme to deceive” and make it a misdemeanor for a person to commit a fraud upon another by making a false statement with the purpose of obtaining money or property from the other person. It would also provide for the forfeiture of the money or property obtained by the false statement. Finally, the bill would make several other changes to New York’s fraud laws.
